Sandy Springs SculptHouse Owner Spotlight: Sarah Hoots

Posted by Katherine Mason on May 2, 2018

SculptHouse is excited to announce its second location in Atlanta and we want to introduce you to client turned owner of the Sandy Spring location, Sarah Hoots!

Do you remember your very first SculptHouse class? Going back to that moment, what advice do you have for someone new to the method and machines?

SculptHouse welcomed me with open arms at my first class in February 2016. My mom had told me about the studio and wanted me to try it. Going in, I had no idea what to think. I considered myself to be strong and in shape, but was amazed (and humbled) by how much my abs were trembling during the first 5 minutes of class!

My advice to any newcomer is to keep an open mind, breathe, and go slow! Don’t go in expecting it to be similar to anything you’ve ever done before.

What was it about the SH method that got you hooked?

Having CardioSculpt Up, Down, 360 and Core classes with the promise of a heart pounding 25-minute cardio component on the Curve treadmill had me hooked. The intervals timed to perfection kept me accountable and allowed me to push harder than I ever would on my own. The core work is always intense and something you can’t recreate anywhere else. Also, let’s highlight that you get amazing results without having to throw weights around and put unnecessary stress on your joints.

You’ve been coming to SculptHouse for 2 years…tell us about your results both physically and mentally?

When I came to SH, I was frustrated and unhappy with the way my body looked. Feeling like I had tried everything from running and yoga, to competitive weight lifting, I was ready to raise the white flag on #bodygoals. SH nailed the perfect workout in 50 minutes and I felt like I had finally found ‘it’. I was still training and using my body weight, but the resistance and counter resistance added a dimension I had never used before. Combining it with the Curve created the HIIT concept I desperately needed. Two years and twenty-three pounds later, my body has never looked this good!

You had quite a big health setback last year. Can you share your story, your struggles and how you overcame such a serious diagnosis with such perseverance, determination and grace?

I was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in March 2017 and went into surgery five days later (watching the SH March Madness on Instagram was torture!!). Along with my lymph nodes being removed, I had twelve inches of skin and tissue removed from my leg where my tumor was. Walking and bending my knee at all was out of the question for two months. During that recovery time, I became so grateful for all of the days I was healthy and felt I had taken them for granted. I swore to myself I would never miss a workout again just because I was too lazy or too tired to go. However, life gives you challenges for reasons. When I was finally given clearance to train again, I showed up to Megan’s 6:00 AM with one crutch and averaged 0.7 mph on the curve before collapsing during a plank. As defeating as it was to be so weak, the entire team at SH made it a point to encourage me and never let me feel alone in my recovery.

What are your favorite Megaformer moves? Favorite Curve blocks?

SO many favorite M3 moves. Top favorites: runner’s lunge, reverse kneeling crunch, cobra, IYT, and anything with the bungee! Curve blocks, I love to hate 60 builds and 45s.

How is the SH method different than any other type of workout you’ve done and why does it work for YOU?

The M3 was a foreign concept to me that I was not sure about in the beginning! I knew it worked, but wasn’t sure it would work for ME. The M3 creates a corset effect on your entire body! Within a month of going to SculptHouse my waist got smaller and my body just felt tighter. Combining that approach with a low impact treadmill that allows you to burn 30% more calories kills two birds with one stone. Workout done, bring on the day!

What else do you do outside of SculptHouse?

I enjoy boxing, trail running, and a great spinning class. I also race road and mountain bikes professionally- what started as a weekend hobby turned into a competitive addiction (SH is the perfect cross training). Incorporating yoga three times a week as well has done wonders for my overall mood and stress level. It’s taught me to take 3-5 minutes out of my day, whether it’s at work, driving, or in the middle of chaos, to breathe, relax, and re-center.

Thanks Sarah we look forward to your continued success and inspiration as you move into the next chapter starting a SculptHouse of your own!
